hi, i was wandering if anyone here has ever read the book Eva, by Peter Dickson? its a sort of science fiction about this girl who has an accident and to make her live they take her brain and put her into the body of a chimp cuz their the only animals left in the world- and eve though her body is a chimp, her brain is hers?
its really good, just wandering if anyones read it...

This can be delete if it is not on topic,
But why is my banner that I made for the user info gone?
I can understand why the "Virgin Suicides" one is gone, but why that one?

Just wondering.

01:59 pm - My turn.
'Vergissmeinicht'
- Keith Douglas

Three weeks gone and the combatants gone
returning over the nightmare ground
we found the place again, and found
the soldier sprawling in the sun.

The frowning barrel of his gun
overshadowing. As we came on
that day, he hit my tank with one
like the entry of a demon.

Look. Here in the gunpit spoil
the dishonoured picture of his girl
who has put: Steffi. Vergissmeinnicht
in a copybook gothic script.

We see him almost with content,
abased, and seeming to have paid
and mocked at by his own equipment
that's hard and good when he's decayed.

But she would weep to see today
how on his skin the swart flies move;
the dust upon the paper eye
and the burst stomach like a cave.

For here the lover and killer are mingled
who had one body and one heart.
And death who had the soldier singled
has done the lover mortal hurt.

09:43 pm - The Thought-Fox (Ted Hughes)
I imagine this midnight moment's forest:
Something else is alive
Beside the clock's loneliness
And this blank page where my fingers move.

Through the window I see no star:
Something more near
Though deeper within darkness
Is entering the loneliness:

Cold, delicately as the dark snow
A fox's nose touches twig, leaf;
Two eyes serve a movement, that now
And again now, and now, and now

Sets neat prints into the snow
Between trees, and warily a lame
Shadow lags by stump and in hollow
Of a body that is bold to come

Across clearings, an eye,
A widening deepening greenness,
Brilliantly, concentratedly,
Coming about its own business

Till, with a sudden sharp hot stink of fox
It enters the dark hole of the head.
The window is starless still; the clock ticks,
The page is printed.

heres something comicstar thought of, and i thought it was a real good idea! theres a poem behind the cut, and i wrote some of my thought- lets hear yours!

But Only Three
by Boop
My name is Misti-
I'm but only three.
My eyes are swollen shut,
I cannot see.

I will always remember,
the lessons I have learned,
Now I have bruises, and
from all the cigarette burns-
My name is Misti, and
I'm but only three.

Shhh....now...
I hear a car...
It's my dad-
drunk again-
coming home from Charlie's Bar.
My name is Misti, and
I'm but only three.

I hear the door-
my name is called,
I pray to God for the pain to stop,
As I squeeze myself,
up against the wall.
My name is Misti, and
I'm but only three.

Tonight God answered my prayer.
He made the pain go away.
My name is Misti, and
I'm But only Three-

Tonight my father murdered me!

07:07 pm - Time to revive this thing!
#1.
Book club. Suggestions for the next book? Or even a genre?

#2.
Can we do another round of plugs? Please? :D

#3.
From looking at other writing communities I've had the idea of doing writing excercises. To get the discussion flowing maybe we can do a couple. If anyone has an idea please don't hesitate to post it! Here's mine to get us started.

Find a poem that you've never read before. From any era, any poet, any subject, any form. Post the poem before a cut and after it, your own thoughts on the poem. Nothing über-intellectual or english lit-esque but just your honest, pure thoughts. Other members can then write their own thoughts, before or after they've read yours.

Meh, I dunno. It's something. If you've got a better idea, suggest away!

12:36 pm - My Book Reviews
Responding to a comment from our fearless leader comicstar, I thought I'd post my latest book review here. (To catch you up to speed, I'm keeping track of how many books I read this year. It's kind of like the 50 Book Challenge {wherein you're supposed to read 50 books in a year, but I'm a realist who's not quite sure I can do that), only less goal oriented)

I'll cut it away for those who are uniterested... as I have also cross posted this in my own journal.

Book #19- The United States of Wal*Mart
